Chance to buy a disc harrow, help please

If it was a one time job or I only had a couple acers to do, I'd get the cheap one. However.. 8 acers is substantial time discing.. and a heavier disc will help.. and last alot longer. Another thing to check is TSC's heavy duty model.. The TSC locally has the little angle iron ones like you mention.. and a heavy duty box construction one. If you can get it for near the price of the landpride.. AND use your gift certificate.. might be an option...

I doubt he'll have any trouble finding something else to spend the gift certificate on. The heavier landpride disc will be worth the money spent.

The problem is that the KK heavy duty disc set is $800, only $200 less than the LandPride, and rusted to all heck. They won't come down on price either, and can't get more. They are in terrible shape and they told me "they're supposed to rust, they're farm implements". What idiots. I like saving a buck, but don't like buying garbage.

Since we are all spending this guys money...How much heavier duty is the landpride model, from the KK heavy duty model ( box structure.. not angle structure ).

There is a box unit at our local TSC... looks fairly beefy.. IMHO.. considering that using the gift certificate.. it would be 300$ cheaper.. that is substantial money.. specially since he said he didn't want to spend extra anyway...

As for rust... if it is surface rust coming thru the paint at welds or on the discs.. that's nothing... If it is structural rust.. and rust holes, and /or nuts and bolts rusted up.. that's another story..

Substantial rust. That's why I looked at the angle frame discs. The box frame ones have disc rust, axle rust, and very little paint on the upper side of all the box frame. And that's just from sitting out. The real problem is they've been sitting out for a year or more and there's no grease in the fittings, and there's signs of rust "leakage" around several nipples. I can get a new HD disc from TSC but have to drive several hours to pick it up, which means getting a trailer..etc. So, I just told the dealer to deliver the LandPride set and I'll take delivery tomorrow morning. I'll keep you posted on what I think of it. Thanks for all your help!!

Used my new LandPride 6' disc harrow today. Awesome. Easy to adjust. Had some trouble with some hard pan soil, and went over it a bajillion times, but it cuts nicely. It weighs around 950lbs. Makes me REAL glad I didn't go with the lighter TSC KK angle frame model. Yes I spent a few hundred dollars more, but this is heavier duty. And at 6', I now wish it were heavier and wider!

Has anyone had any experience with the MasseyFerguson harrows. I saw a nice one at the dealer, I believe 6', for around $800. Looked pretty strong to me. I am also needing one and may go back to check that one out.

Here's a KK I saw at my nearby TSC store in Kirksville, Mo. It was $770, 18" x 20 discs, 6.5 ft I plan to buy this style for my 40hp JD. It is a heavy duty box frame at a much better price than Land pride or Tuf-line.
