I need a bit of advice. i live in Alaska and tractors are few and far between. Now I learn that an engineer from work is moving and has a ford tractor, witch he is thinking of selling.

The tractor i will see when I get home at the end of the week is suppose to be a 1958 ford golden jubilee power master with a Red something engine. He has a couple pictures and it looks right from afar. It has a horrible paint job, and a factory looking loader. There is 3 point hitch, and he said he bought new tires.

My daddy had a little ford on the homestead in northern MN, and I learned how to drive with it. In fact I remember giving my grandma a mothers day ride on it. I might be a red neck after all. His was most likely a 8n.

So before i get banished to the dog house again for bringing home ANOTHER one, tell me about this tractor

Does the story match? did they make this tractor this year?

What is wrong with em? i Mean what gets tore up? I have an idea about the basics, what is special and good or bad about this model?

Lastly, what is the going rate where you are?

And if sound guy is out there i would like his opinion

Golden Jubilee- 1953 only, as it celebated Ford's 50th year building tractors. Same tractor built in 1954 as NAA.

1954-1957 the tractor was upgraded and renumerated as the 600 series with the 134 cid. engine, 800 came along with 172 cid. engine. Both series were painted the same as the 8N.

1957-1962 the tractor was again updated, the 2 series became the 601 Workmaster series and the 801 Powermaster series. 601 was all red with a gray grll, wheels and fenders, 801 was gray with red chassis and grill.

dgl24087 gave a good history of them. as far as what's wrong with them, well that depends on the owners and how they used or abused them. Since it has a loader, drive it and try some turning manuevers, with a loaded bucket if possible. The teering tends to wear if a lot of loader work was done. Also look at the gauges to see if it is charging after startup, If the temp gauge comes up a little after running a few minutes without it spiking at the top end, and how the oil pressure looks. Add something to the 3ph and see if it raises it up high, and then holds it there. Around here I see them for sale for $1500 up to $4500. Most are sold in the $2000 range if they are fairly nice.

Ditto what the others said.

Engine is a red tiger OHV engine.

all the models mentioned have live hyds.. the 55+ machines are 4gpm pumps, and the 53/54 are 2.85 gpm pumps.

If a jubilee/naa, the hyds are a bit more crude with less options to add external hyds ( but it can be done ).. the 55+ models are easy to add external hyds too as valves are still made that bolt to their hyd cover to give you 1 or 2 sa or da remotes... though most of the time if you see a loader there is a front pump.

the hyd cover on a 53/54 is a more crude setup.. it was improves in 55 and remained pretty much the same thru 64.

naa and 6xx series are about 34 hp.. whereas the 8xx are closer to 48 hp.

ps was an option from 55+ though could be retrofitted to a NAA.

models with a *4* as the middle digit of the model number have a 4 speed trans and non live pto. thus a NAA and a 640 and a 641 ara all basically the same type of machine capability wise.. 34hp, non live pto, 4 spd trans and live hyds.

*5* was a 5 spd for/aft/up/down shifting tranny.. 3 and r are int he top gate and work almost like a crude shuttle shifter.. still no live pto.

*6* was the 5spd with a dual stage clutch and live pto.

in 59 a SOS tranny came out that was a 10 f and 2 r powershifter with independent pto ( live ).. *71 was the single speed pto model, and *81 was the dual speed pto model.

model number and sn are on the flat of the bellhousing aft of the starter ont he 55+ machines.. on a naa, there is an angled boss aft of the starter ont he bellhousing, except that early ones had the # on the left front side of the block.

quick way to tell an naa from an 00/01 is to look at the rear axle.. naa had an axle nut like an 8n.. 00/01 had a smothed or dished hub.. no nut...

I'm located outside Atlanta, Ga and $3,500 for that tractor in good condition is a good deal here...The paint is a fun weekend project...I would think that is a good, fair deal..especially with a factory loader...

so.. an 841. which is a decent and strong tractor.

where's the fuel tank leak? something easy to fix with a piece of gas tank putty like a pin hole? ( or a sheet metal screw and oring )..or is it rusted out under a bracket?

while 3500$ ain't a deal here in florida.. in alaska.. it just might be if the demand is higher than the supply.

For what it is worth, we ship to Alaska pretty often and to ship 1500 lbs cost about $1200. I bet the shipping cost to get a tractor like that to Alaska from the lower 48 would be the $3500 he asks or more. Ken Sweet

yep.. that's why the 'high' asking price might not be so bad. I knew a guy that ferry'd cars to alaska... 10+year old units that locall might sell for 4000$ brought good money..
