L2000DT I think
Just got a new tractor, and have not been able to track down a manual yet.

Want to change the gear box oil. I think this is the same oil that is used to power the hydrolics.

Q. What oil weight/brand should I use?
Q. How much do I need?
Q. How do you get the old oil out of all of the hydro lines?
Q. Is there a screen filter?
Q. How do I know when the gear box is filled to the correct level?

There is a large fill plug right behind the gear/pto shift levers. I can't see any oil looking into the hole. Also, there is a 1/2" plug on the right side. Is this the max fill level.

Any help would be very much appricated.

Tx,

Bob

PS. See my other post under rocketman128 for pictures of my unit if interested.

Update:

Removed plug on side as described in previous post, plug had o-ring on it. And gear lube started to flow out rather quick. Put plug back in. I think the oil level might be a little high since all my pistons on my bucket are retracked. Will test again with piston in max extended postion. Oil looked good and clean.

Would still like some input on the above issues if anybody has the time or knowledge.

Tx,

Bob

Update:

Got a hold of a service tech at the dealer who seemed to be very up to speed on the older kubota. He told me to change the 80 weight trans/hydrolic oil with a multi-grade oil that new holand makes. Tractor will live at 10,000 feet in rocky mountains, and temp get to -20 in winter. He indicated that the 80 weight would turn to glue at those temps. Took about 5 gallons change. He said there was no easy way to change the oil that was in the pistons and lines. OK to just let it mix.

Current project is to change 90 weight gear oil on front axels and hubs. Am looking a Amsoil 75-80 multi grade. Anybody have any input on what I should use?

Tx,

Bob

The Kubota dealer recommended I use the New Holland MULTI G 134. Cost about $25 for 2.5 Gal. I used 5 Gal Total.

For future ref.. tsc and most oil companies sell a generic UTF that is Nh 134 and jd303/hyguard/hytran compatible at a lower price than NH.
