Change oil brands?

   / Change oil brands? #21
Thru the years, I have noticed many people who will "go to war" over oil brands. they make claims that "the oil is everything" in the reason that the engine lasted 20 years, went 800,000 miles, or 2 million miiles. Some of those nice folks never thought of giving themselves some credit for all that mileage and years. They warmed up an engine most of the time before making it work hard, they never over-sped the engine, they always down shifted a bit so the engine could pull more freely on steep grades or in hard ground, they never allowed the engine to get hot, and they changed oil and filters within the recommendation. Yet, with all that, they think the total success was due to it being "AMS Oil, Delo, Rotella T, Fina, or XYZ" brand. I wish I could pat those on the back who went a million miles, or 20 years with no trouble. It was not just your oil. It was mostly YOU. You cared, you drove it right. Course----it didn't hurt if it was Delo you used:laughing::thumbsup:

oil change is part of maintenance. my point was, that just about any brand, even a generic, will get you down the road.

that fina diesel oil we used.. we bought it cheap and in bulk and ran it in everything... that was my point.

it WASN'T DELO or AMSOIL.. it was a straight bulk packaged product.. no frills. not even sold in qty less than 55g or bulk.. etc.

Now I don't know if I can believe this or not. I was told today about a woman in this area with a Lincoln Town Car ... 150K miles and when asked how often she changed the oil she said never. At the suggestion of a friend she had Ford change out the oil ... well I quess the motor blew in less than 1000 miles.

As they say in Texas, " Earl is earl".:D

Back when I was stationed in Georgia for a while in the 70's, I picked up a copy of "How To Speak Southern". Most people would assume that southerners say "earl" for oil, but in fact, an "earl" is an aerial TV antenna. At least according to that book. It was a real crackup. They would use words they defined in a humorous sentence to get it across. Wish I still had that book. It was a great coffee table item.

Update: found the book still in print at Amazon in case anyone wants a laugh.
