Has anyone changed a battery on a 418, It look's like to me that the
pump assembly and exhaust system have to be removed,

I have done it on the 422 and had to remove the exhaust system. Not the pump. I did realize that I might have to slide the motor assembly over by loosening the bolts that hold it to the tractor and pry it a little bit. As it turned out, mine barely squeezed out. I bought new exhaust gasket, but did not use them. You can call Power Trac if needed of course.
The pump assembly is not too hard to remove. I did it when I repalced the ignition coils.

Not enough wiggle room between frame and pump, sliding the engine over
is my next step, I believe the only differance between our machine's are
engine HP and a oil cooler

I'll have to remove my muffler on the Kohler to get the battery out on my 2001 PT425. I still have the original battery in it. This may be the year.

At least that's one advantage the red PT's have. The battery is on top. Easier to disconnect when there's a fire. lol !

Put some PT Blaster on the muffler bolts the day before and 30 minutes before loosening them. It works wonders. It does what Liquid Wrench claims to do.

The newer model 400 series have the battery up high, too. I like the model year that PJ has. Everything seems to be in the right spot.

It also looks like a normal battery instead of the kinda odd shape that the earlier ones are. Maybe I could put one on the bumper or in the weight box. Actually mine was pretty easy to remove and the muffler came off easy with PB Blaster.

Battery is changed, ended up only having to remove the exhaust system,
It will go easier the next time around, what year's did they build the red
one's?
