Thought I'd share this with the gang. I recently purchased a 2002 KK rotary cutter and wondered if I should change the gear lube (and how to do it without hangin it upside down since I saw no drain plug...). Anyhow I used the gravity feed method to drain it using a small piece of hose and only one mouthful of fluid... :licking::D. Anyhow, glad I did it, here is what the stuff looked like that came out... Looks like a milk shake huh ?

The gear lube looked bad and needed changing, well done. I use an injector made for injecting liquid smoke or other flavorings in barbecuing and a length of fish aquarium hose or surgical tubing and fit it on the injector. I can then suction out the old fluids.

Hope you flushed it before refilling?

Well, no, not really. At least I didn't intend to. However when I went to refill I figured it would hold about a full quart of gear lube, so I overfilled it quite a bit. I had to pull the check plug to allow it to drain, and it ran pretty clear the entire time, so I think it is OK. Maybe I'll change it again in a month or two just for safe measure.

The lube in my snow blower looked similar. After I refilled it I used it a few times and drained & refilled it again. It looked really good then too. I've resolved myself to drain & refill both my MMM and snow blower at the end of each season. Cheap insurance and easy to do.
