The other thing you can do to quickly siphon fuel to the engine in dry line is have a friend plug the air intake and turn the engine over for about 2 seconds. Sucks the fuel up real fast.

on my VW TDI, if I change fuel filter and lose the prime in the line from the tank, I pressurize the tank slightly--hose on shop vac outlet ...spits the fuel right out.

i broke two filters on saplings until i disconnected it and tie wrapped the whole thing under the hood
