My Kubota L3400 has a bypass/loop hose on the back aux.. When the backhoe is hooked up the backhoe plugs into the male aux outlet and the bypass hose is just capped off, but when the backhoe is not hooked up this bypass hose needs to plug in to the male fitting on the tractor. The hose has hit the 3 point hitch a few times too many and has quite a bit of damage to the rubber. I would like to replace it. It's about 18" long with two 90s on it..
My question is, will I lose much fluid when I remove this hose? Also is it ok to leave the system open while the new hose is being made? I am not sure how long it will take the shop to make it but I am guessing a day or two? It has been very humid here and I don't want my hyd fluid/system to become contaminated from being left open. Also will it keep losing fluid while it is off? It is pretty high on the system so I am thinking not? Maybe I need to buy a female cap to go there while it's off? hoses.jpg

If it were me, after you replace the hose, I would install the new hose with the fitting on the right turned 90 deg. The hose then would no longer hang down but instead it would clear the 3pt arms.

You're not going to lose that much fluid, however don't run the tractor until the new hose is in place.

Before taking the hose to a shop, take a photo of the hose.

The right hand end with the 90 degree bend and flared fitting at the tractor end may not be something they have and you may have to decide on the compromise(s) they have to offer.

The scrap in the outer cover of the hose that I can see is not serious at all if the wires which give the hose its strength are not exposed.

To repair the scraped outer cover, a self vulcanizing tape like this 3M product will do a good job.

Thanks guys. The braid is showing in the cuts, there are several.
I was thinking of turning that 90 degree a full 180 so that the loop went up instead of down.

The hose will be full of oil. The fitting on the tractor should not leak much oil.

You could order the hose from Messicks or your Kubota dealer so you can just swap it. The price might even be reasonable.

My local hydraulic shop makes hoses while I wait.

As noted above you should reroute the hose and possibly wrap it. A good hydraulic hose maker will make that hose in about 5min. It doesn’t take a day or two.....

Ok I changed it and it was pretty uneventful.. New hose cost a lot more than I expected but they made it while I waited.. Was $81 for that hose.. Each end was about $30 plus $15 for the hose itself. He said it was because they are 90s and straight would have been much cheaper. In hindsight I guess I could have used one straight at least.. Anyway, the only way I saw to reroute it was to have it pointing up rather than down.. It can be looped around the rollbar or not, in this photo I routed it around which seems better but looks funny.... I am not sure if it is a safety issue having the hose up right behind my seat like this but I figure my loader hoses are right in front of me too...

One concern was putting the ORB coupler on the hose, really doesn't tighten all that much, just the slightest turn beyond hand threading the coupler on!!! ... Doesn't seem to be leaking though... Guess I am just not used to this sort of fitting.
Thanks everybody.IMG_20190422_151238434.jpg

Glad it’s done. Sounds like dealer pricing. I just had a hose made a few days ago. The hose was longer but the fittings were the same. $41 and I was paying full pop at the local heavy equipment, truck repair shop. Yours looks good!

Looks good, yes those fittings are a bit pricey, anymore I try to use separate fittings for anything like that so the hose can be made with straight ends, usually a lot cheaper and sometimes easier to come by if you damage a hose and need replaced in a pinch.
