John Deere/850 loader
I have a J.D.850 loader which came with a 666 front mount snow blower. Is it possible to mount it in the rear?

We're all missing something. Why would you want to? Reverse works, but forward doesn't?

Most things are possible if you have the mechanical and fabrication skills to do them.

All depends on how it was installed.
If the installation consists of a long underslung ladder type affair with power from PTO, then I'd say yes as that style installation uses a reverser and runs at standard PTO speeds. This style simply adapts a rear blower to front application.

Otherwise most front mounts are reverse spinning, higher RPMs as they generally are geared to engine RPMs.
This style is generally not all that HD and usually limited to much smaller tractors in the lawn tractor category.

Why would you want to do this? 99% of the time people complain about crinked necks & want to put a rear blower on the front.

Personally I'm happy with my front plow & rear blower as I mostly plow & only run the blower about 15% of the time. But if I had to blow a lot I'd figure out how to get the blower up front.

Both directions work. It looks like a huge effort to disconnect the loader, then connect all the drive shaft and mount the snowblower. I would like to keep the loader connected.

Once you blow forward, most would never want to go backward again. Certainly not I. A front blower can cost five times what a generic rear 3ph blower as the front blowers are almost always machine model specific. Just sell it, pocket some money and get a generic rear blower.

Well, I've done it both ways, front and rear blower.
IMO front while nice is only good with a hydrostatic tranny,

For speed a plow beats it all and when coupled with a rear blower for big events you have the best.

I found that a 7ft frt blower on a TN75 was a scary beast when working in close quarters as there was a wide swing in turns and visibility at blower corners was hard to judge due to angles and blind spots.

My setup is rear blower and backup camera installation combined with a front plow.
Plow for minor events and blower for major dumpings as well as reducing berms.

I'd sell the front blower and buy a 3PH blower.

I'd sell the front blower and buy a 3PH blower.

Agree, Roy. So many folk desire FRT that he actually could come out ahead $$wise.
In fact, study the make up of a tractor and you find that they are all designed to work from the rear.

I know of more than just a few operators that have had major repair bills due to front mounted snow equipment.
Damages ranged from trashed frames, front traction components etc etc.

A friend's frt blower caused $8,000. damage on his TN75--- AND ---after the repair broke down again after only 12 hours of usage.
That case went to court and dragged out 3 years. He won the case but lost tractor usage during that time as dealer held his tractor hostage.
While he won, he lost as lawyers were the real winners.
