Changing Hyd Fluid (log splitter)

I want to change the hyd oil in my log splitter, how do I get the oil to come out of the hyd cylinder?

There is no drain plug in the tank, but I have a vacuum pump on a tank to remove it from the top side.

I just want to get as much of the old oil out as possible.

I was thinking I could put the splitter in the vertical position and with the ram all the way up it would drain, I'm I right here?

It will depend where the rod is, retracted or extended. If it is retracted, and the splitter is vertical, then, remove the hose to the rod end and the fluid will drain. There will not be very much fluid in the base end.

If I have the cylinder in the vertical position all the fluid will be at the bottom part of the cylinder, so can I leave the valve in the neutral position and manually pull the piston out and force the fluid out?

You are correct about removing all the fluid from the cylinder. To drain the tank most have the feed to the pump low in the reservoir so you could remove the hose to get most of it out along with using your pressure extractor to get what is left.

In neutral, the cylinder ports on the valve are blocked off. I don't think you will be able to pull the rod out with the hoses connected. If you take the hoses off, you might be able to pull the rod out, Just take the cyl off and turn it so the port you want to drain is at the bottom.
