Went to my local LS dealer to get the filters for my 50hr fluid change and asked for a hydraulic filter and the parts guy says you don't need to change the hydraulic filter at 50hrs. I told him the manual calls for it and he said its just a money maker and the Massey's they sell don't call for one until several hundred hours. My tractor is NOT HST it is a geared tractor. Just wondering what everyone's take on this is. Thanks

My take is that if the manual calls for a filter then I would change it at 50h. At some point between my previous 2002 Kubota and now 2016 Kubota the manufacturer no longer recommends changing the hydraulic fluid and filter at 50h... just the filter gets changed. Which is exactly what I will do.

The owners manual for my 2009 M6040 recommend changing ALL fluids, oils & filters at 50 hours.

Follow the manual, record the work and retain the receipts.

Change it all. And get the 'parts guy' to ask tech support about his money maker opinion.

I changed mine also but it was closer to 80 hours. I cut it and inspected it and it looked excellent inside. Pleats were spaced as they were originally and there was no distortion or tears. Oil looked great inside also. I like to change them out just for the fact that there are more wear particles from break in. I found cheaper filters at RockAuto. After buying at the dealers online, they were about $180 for all. I ended up getting them all for around $120 by playing with part numbers and doing some research.

I changed the engine oil and engine filter at 50. Then everything at 100.

At 50 hrs I would change the filters but not the hydraulic fluid unless it was contaminated by water and then you would have bigger concerns to address. The reason for the filter chnage is that during the first 50 - 100 hrs of operation the components are being worn in. The filter catches these particles and potentially fills up. After the first 50 - 100 hrs the wear in or break-in period is over and unless something catastrophic happens the sytem should generate very little contamination allowing the longer time between filter changes.

The oil should be good for 250 hrs unless it gets super hot.
