I have a 3720 and I plan on changing over to Amsoil Hydraulic fluid. I have changed my X740 engine oil and hydro over already. Last year I switch the engine over on the 3720.

I read the manual and I have the oil, my question is, are there any tricks to things to watch out for while I do it?

Thanks
Bob

Not sure if this relates or not, but Ill share.. When I switched my 2320 over to Amsoil I didnt measure what oil I took out so I could put the same amount back in.. It was suppose to take ~3.5 gallons and as I was filling I ran the engine but the oil never showed in the observation glass. so i kept filling it up and running the engine.

When the oil ran out of the fill tube I knew I mess up.. What i did wrong was not run the PTO as i filled it.. as soon as the pto was running the observation glass filled with oil. I then had to drain out the extra fluid to get it back where it was suppose to be

good luck

Keep the engine off, if your running it with no fluid in the transmission then the hydraulic pumps will be functioning without fluid pumping through them and that can cause damage.

First, read the manual to see how much fluid the system holds and start off by filling it with that amount, nothing more and nothing less. Wait a few minutes after it's full so that all the fluid is able to settle, then take a reading from your dipstick. The manual recommends that you take the reading when the system is cold. If the dipstick shows the amount of fluid being in the safe zone then take it for a little drive to warm the oil and get it circulated through the whole system. After that, shut the machine down and let it cool for around an hour, then recheck the dipstick for a safe fluid level. If it reads low then add some more fluid until it is resting comfortably in the safe zone.

It's just as a simple as doing an oil change on an engine, nothing to it.

Who told you 3.5 Gals?
https://jdparts.deere.com/partsmkt/document/english/checklst/kg_MaintSheet_3120_3320_3520_3720.pdf

The manual and Deere "Maintenance Sheet" list the eHydro as 6.8 Gals and the PR as 6.3

IMO, I would ONLY use the HyGard Low-Vis Fluid in it...seen first hand what non-OEM oils do....not saying they'll destroy your tractor (it can...), but it may not work as designed...I know we experienced it with our Kubota....

I was relating MY tractor hydraulic fluid experience and what i ran into..

For what its worth - I have had no problems with the Amsoil so far - about 30 to 40 hours of use...

I'm checking now with Deere oil but When I had my 2320 I ran full Amsoil in the tranny front end and engine. I noticed that the Amsoil had the tendency to expand and once and awhile I would have to break the nut on my hydro line to get the quick connects off. I'm running Deere in my new machine and we'll see what happens.
