When I got my 72 " Frontier rotary cutter from my dealer it had the rubber belt front guard. I noticed this rite away and was not very happy about it as the cutter I ordered in all the pictures had the chain guard. The dealer gave me some excuse like we were trying to keep the cost down to give you a better deal and so on and so fourth. The first day I used the cutter the rubber belt was already getting chewed up this was not acceptable. I told him to get me the chains and I finally got around to putting them on today. Much better :D

When I bought my Land Pride rotary cutter it came with a rubber front guard. Brush cutters cut best with no guards at all. But I have been bonked in the head a couple of times from brush hogs with no front guards. I bought the front chains for my Land Pride cutter. Money well spent.

Bonked in the head > man be careful fellow tractor enthusiast :D I hope so I was also hoping it could save a stone from hitting the rear window on the cab and costing me big dollars to repair. The chains were about $300.00 dollars but I got a better price since I bought the tractor from same place. I still thought the price was crazy after just paying 2200.00 for the cutter. They always find a way to get you in the end :(

The use of chains versus the rubber type definitely leans toward the positive side in regards to the longevity issue. I bought my Bush Hog with the chains already installed. I remember many years ago that my Father attached used harness leather that was previously used on a working pair of mules for guard material. :):tractor:
