I don't trust dummy lights. I don't think you'll find a sealed system used on allisons or CAT autos.

the bigger allisons, with the electronic shift selector have a provision for fluid level check thru the shift selector..

they also have a dipstick/fill tube

I must be a lucky person. I have a 1997 F-150 with 4.6L, and I've changed the transmission fluid once.

I also just rolled 171,000 miles on it. Sure the fluid isn't bright pink, but the transmission hasn't had a lick of problems.

Our other family vehicle is a 2000 Taurus. 122,000 miles on it with original fluid. Again, not a single lick of problems. I thought about changing the fluid, but will wait til 150,000 miles like the truck.

On a related note, my engine oil changes are at 10,000 miles. In this day and age, I've learned to save a little here and there. It may be foolish for some, but it has worked great for me!

The smaller Ford trucks seem to have few transmission problems. My F150 went 109,000 miles with the original tranny. My F-350's with diesels didn't fare that well.
