I'm changing the hydraulic fluid on my lift, I need hose to run from the suction side on the pump into a pail of hydraulic fluid. I'd rather not spend $5 a foot for hose that's only going to be used for about 15 minutes. I think even tygon tubing would work for this if I could find it in the right diameter in small quantities. It has to press onto hose barbs that measure 15/16" across the outside of the barbs, the existing hose measures 1-1/8" OD but it's European so it's probably some metric size. I need two pieces about 3' length. I've looked online but the number of types of tubing is mind numbing and it's often sold in large quantities. Thanks for any suggestions.

Go to your local hardware store or Rural King, where you can buy a variety of hoses and tubing by the foot. Rural King will have some tubing in the hardware section, and other tubing in the Ag department by the sprayer accessories. TSC probably has similar varieties.

You need something vacuum rated to prevent collapse. Possibly some sprayer hose would be this size

You only plan to change the oil once in your life? Seems like a handy tool to keep around for the next time. Bite the bullet and get suction rated hose.

As others noted, you NEED suction rated hose. Otherwise it will collapse. Starving a pump causes more damage than contaminated oil as cavitation kicks in.

I'll try TSC and Farm and Fleet.

Hopefully I won't have to do it again, I have to change the viscosity of the oil since it came from a hot climate. There's no requirement to change the hydraulic fluid.

Yeah, I'm aware of the issue, but I'll be standing there with the hose in my hand so I can shut off the engine if there's a problem. The routing that I need for this hose makes it difficult to use something that isn't more flexible than regular hydraulic hose. Otherwise I'd just spend the money and buy it.

Can you idle the engine down or is it a one speed wonder? If idled down there is less chance for the hose to collapse especially if you go full size for the pump inlet.

If you can get bucket close to the pump level will help also.

I can run the engine at idle, good idea.
Bucket location is kind of limited by flexibility of hose I can find, but it will be pretty close to pump level.
