Cheaper Air & Fuel filters

When I first stared buying filters for two tractors it was an expensive proposition. Now I've found if you dig a little deeper and do a lot of cross referencing you can acquire filters for less than half of the brand name stuff.

There are dozens of different manufacturers and the same filters apply to dozens of machines .... BUT .... for one machine application they want $20. and for the next you can get the same filter for $5.

Sometimes you can get too cheap of a filter. I like to stick with good quality brands Baldwin, Donaldson, Fleetguard, Luberfiner, Mann, and Purolator. Going to a cheap filter such as Trac or some other knock off brand is opening yourself up to problems.

Good example.... One tractor is a NH T1030 and the factory air filter is $50.
The same filter cross referenced through a different number to Luberfiner is $20.

I've studied the Trac fuel filters against the Wix brand ..... I can't find a difference in materials used.

Here's the WIX cross for oil and air filters on a T1030. Wix oil 51348 = NAPA 3148, WIX air 49410= NAPA 9410, Wix air WA10015= NAPA 500015

One caution, some filters have a built in check valve that is designed to keep a pump primed.
I would suspect that simple visual matching might overlook that feature.
The filter manufactures cross reference charts would be the safest way to go.

Another stunner ....... finding the inner air filter for the factory SBA314531175 has been tough. I just chased some part numbers around and found the Wix WA10015 for $6.29 each ...... The factory filters are near $40.

I ordered a half dozen b/4 they changed their mind.
