Does anyone happen to know what the Check Engine code P1804 specifically means?

I've seen it mentioned in another thread that it was a Mahindra specific code but no description was given of what it means.

Tractor had 1st issue of cranking but not firing. Tried it a second time and it fired. Check engine light came on briefly but then went away in 2 minutes before able to check it.

Then 2-3 episodes of the tractor failing to fire when cranking 3-4 times and would only fire when throttle is held wide open. Check engine light stays on and it's now in Limp Mode, not revving past 1900 RPM. OBD2 reader says code P1804.

Waiting to hear from the dealer.
Just thought i'd ask here.
Seems fuel related.

Tractor was running great, first time it saw below 1/2 tank of fuel and this started happening now, increasingly worse.
Pulled the tank and checked the screen/pick up, clean as a whistle.
No water in fuel; pre-filter drain check looks good.
Filled the tank back to full just to check, but it's still cranks and needs full throttle to fire.

Thanks.

Sure it's an 1804 and not 1801?

yea, P1804 (disregard the 1/2; it showed P1804 as both codes)

Just heard from the dealer. This was a "left over" tractor from a dealer that got bought out. Per the dealer, the service bulletin for the the ECU reflash was never performed on this tractor. So that is their plan, to come by later this week when I'm free and do the reflash / updates.

From browsing other posts, that seems to be the first step for a ton of issues, ECU reflash.
Lets hope that works.
If not, it probably some other sensor or electrical issue, as seems to be the trend with these tractors.
Guess we'll see.

P1804-- RAIL PRESSURE LIMITER OPEN

LOL, you look more worried than I am :p
I think I might recall reading somewhere about high pressure on the rail causing a fault.

I'll post an update then.

Thanks for the info sir.

P1804-- RAIL PRESSURE LIMITER OPEN

Also, just curious, where were you able to find that info? Would be helpful to have a reference.

Thanks!

Well if you haven't seen my other thread yet, I'll just follow up in here since this thread is tagged specific to the P1804 code.
You can follow this link for a thorough mahindra CRD diagnostic manual pdf: http://kisandost.com/KisanMitraWeb/MarketBulletinView?moduleType=SubjectPartFile&FileName=203

pdf page 330
P1804 - RAIL PRESSURE LIMITING VALVE OPENED

Possible Causes
• Loose connections
• Wiring harness problem
• Metering unit pump failure
• Rail pressure sensor failure

DTC Information
-Lamp Status
The Check engine (CHK ENG) lamp in the instrument cluster blinks continuously.
- DTC Reaction
Rail line needs to be changed after 50 counters.

Follow the PDF for the Step by Step diagnostic procedure.

Well here is update after the Dealer came out today.

I will first start off by saying that so far, I've had great support from my dealer.
I purchased this tractor new from PowerPro Equipment in Lebanon, PA.
The sales manager has been extremely responsive, ensuring they will take care of everything in a timely manner and at my convenience. He's assured that even prior to purchasing, so I want to definitely give him credit. And he drove up today with the Technician for them to hook up the tractor and see what's going on.

They hooked up the Garuda software.
They tractor was showing an active code "P0340 Camshaft Sensor no signal"

here is from the diagnostic manual:

"P0340 - CAMSHAFT NO SIGNAL

The Camshaft position sensor senses the Top dead center (TDC) point of the
first cylinder in the compression stroke. This allows the ECU to determine when
to start the injection.

Sensor records the rate at which the camshaft is spinning and this information is
used by the ECU to control ignition and fuel injection.

Possible Causes
Loose connections
Incorrect fitment of camshaft position sensor
Wiring harness problem
Excess gap between sensor and cam gear
Faulty camshaft position sensor
Faulty ECU

Normal Operation
At normal vehicle condition, the ECU receives an output voltage signal (5Volts PWM Waveform) from the camshaft
position sensor.

DTC Detecting Condition
Normal waveform pattern has not been input for cylinder identification from the camshaft position sensor signal for
4 sec. (Engine should be cranked to check this error).

DTC Reaction
Delayed engine start.
Engine speed limitations.
Engine may stall while driving.

Lamp Status
The check engine (CHK ENG) lamp in the instrument cluster glows."

So they're ordering a new Camshaft Position Sensor.
For clarification, the Camshaft Position Sensory / Crankshaft Position Sensor / Engine Speed Sensor are all synonymous on this tractor. There is a single sensory on the front of the engine, between the alternator and crank pulley.

The symptom descriptions from the manual does match my description of issues.
Make note, my OBD2 reader said code P1804 Fuel Rail Limiter Valve Open, which did NOT appear on the Garuda factory software. So maybe generic OBD2 readers can't be trusted and you'll have to have a dealer tech plug it in for you unfortunately.

So the plan is to swap in a CPS and see how it does. They also installed the most current ECU software they had, aka the ECU reflash. I did mention about the temp gauge not moving at all unless I was actually doing some serious work with weight on the tractor. I also saw a video where someone explained how when Mahindra switched to the newest Tier 4 powerplant they never utilized the proper new temperature sending unit/gauge combo.

The Tech is going to see if he can find more info on this and track me down an appropriate temp sending unit if possible.

Anyway, i'll keep this thread updated when I have info.

Here is a pic of the sensor; front right of the engine. in the middle of the triangle formed by the alternator pulley, fan pulley, and crank pulley.

The wiring tag says Segment Speed Sensor. The Mahindra Parts manual say Phase Sensor. The Garuda software read the code as Camshaft Position Sensor. It could also be Engine Speed Sensor or Crankshaft Position Sensor.
