Are u checking running at idle?

I would think the fluid level would checked with the engine off,FEL lowered.
What tractor make/model?
Info would be in the operators manual.
Good Luck!

I am working 15 hours away. Level is different, running or not.
Has fluid but I am wondering.
L3800 HST.

The HST uses the same oil reservoir as the rest of the tractor's hydraulic system. When the engine is running there really isn't much of a level change - maybe a quart or so depending on the model and attachments. The HST is mounted low so is immune to small fluctuations in reservoir level which typically has well over 30 quarts in it. If the level is anywhere on the dipstick its fine. Take care, Dick B

You got it. HST is not in any way similar to an automatic transmission in a car which is checked with engine running.

Yes, when a car with auto trans starts, the torque converter fills up with fluid. A car's reservoir is small and level drop is significant - so it should be checked running. The HST's fluid volume is basically constant whether running or not. It circulates out for cooling, but is always full.

Where is your level on the dipstick? Manual on mine indicates anywhere between the two marks is fine.

On the MX5100 the HST level window is on the rear end. Even a slight deviation from level surface has a significant impact on the level. The slope of our garage floor is enough to take it from the top of the window to the middle.
