Checking pump timing

Is there a easy way to check the injection pump timing on my 1900 without dissassembling the engine. I know the previous owner had the engine apart. I don't see where they marked the pump and cover for reassembly. My service manual shows how to set it with the engine dissambled but not while assembled. I just want to make sure it is correct. When you look at the adjustment slots on the pump it is turned all the way counter clockways which leads me to beleive it may not be set right.

I have not done it before but briefly read the direction in the past. There is a notch on crankshaft pulley that shows #1 piston on TDC where it lines up with the a metal pointer on the block. A bit ****** of that is another notch where indicate the injector pump release. I thought it said to break the fuel line to the injector and as you turn the crank shaft slowly with a breaker bar it should begin to discharge the fuel. fine adjustment is done by loosening the injector pump from the timing cover and advance or forward as it needed.
What I have done on mine is to put a witness marl on the pump using my dremel tool on two locations for future benefit.

Take a look at the document below to see if it helps you. It starts from the middle of page 46. It is about the same as what I suggested.
