Young lady's Chernobyl Story

You folks might enjoy, if that is the correct word, this fascinating journey through the area surrounding Chernobyl.. by a young Russian lady. I wish my Russian were half as good as her English. She's a biker, and takes rides through that area on her Kawasaki.

Please yank this if moderators feel it's too far off-topic. I think most people will find it interesting, how this young lady perceives things.. she was 7 years old when the incident took place.. and she has had a while to come to some sort of grips with it.

I was actually over there for work back in 1997, and in the town of Slavutych, which was built to house the plant workers, and all the other residents of Pripyat, after the '86 accident. I wouldn't say the visit was fun, but it certainly made me appreciate certain things more.

So sad , especially the kindergarten pictures. I wish there was a way to e-mail her to thank her for this. Yes, it does make you realize how lucky we are. Thanks for posting this. It is something i wont soon forget. Hopefully it will be left up for others to read.

I guess we all heard of the disaster at Chernobyl on the news years ago, but the sheer size of the affected area was something I never realized. Living here, I just thought it was a small town over there in the middle of nowhere. That picture story sure puts it in true perspective...........We really have it made here...............Tom

Ditto on size.

The sheer size of it is stunning. I cannot imagine walking away without *anything*, getting a "naked shower".

Sort of like being born again, but with all the ramifications and debts of society still haunting you.

Here's a pic of the young lady who wrote the piece, with her dad, the nuclear physicist. Don't they just look like normal, nice, people? It's sad that we got side-tracked into this whole "Russians are evil" thing. I'd like to email her also.. maybe I'll try regular snail mail..
