chevy 1500

I have a 2005 chevy 1500 I got a brake controller for my trailer but I hooked everthing up put the fuse in the box and I still cannot get the control box to work. Any suggestions. I have power comin fron the hook up under the dash also. I went by the directions on the control box and I got nothin, I bought the control box from Agri-supply

Did your 1500 come with the trailer wiring pkg.? I assume it did and you wired it into the harness going to the fuse box. You have to check and see the blue wire has been run back to the trailer plug. If your truck didn't come with the trailer pkg. all the wiring may not be there and may have only the basics (left,right,park, and ground). If you have all the wiring installed correct then you should be able to read varying voltage on the trailer plug brake terminal as someone manually moves the controller knob in the cab. A lot of times the trailer ground is at fault so check that too. If all this checks out then the trailer wiring or brakes could be at fault. Check out some trailer wiring sites to double check your wiring.

Yeah my truck came with the tow hook up on the back it is the 1500 work truck package. Yeah I was wondering what that blue wire was all about under the hood so you say that should be run to the back of the truck? I did look under the truck and see another wire hangin down from the hitch area with a plug on it. The hook up under the dash has power but I am getting nothing in the control box. I know the brakes are hooked up right because I checked them on another truck. Maybe something with the wire you say to run to the back of the truck what is that for?

blue wire underhood to fusebox acc post 1 or 2. needs a 30amp j fuse or maxi fuse(can not remember). extra wire under hitch is for a 3rd brake for a topper

Where did the pigtail between the connector on the bulkhead and the controller come from? somewhere around that time frame there was supposedly a change in the bulkhead connector. I was told that 2 wires were switched. If the pigtail is for the wrong year there could be a problem.

The wire under the hood is probably the B+ hot lead that feeds the B+ terminal at the trailer plug. It does not come hooked up from the factory. It can be hooked to a fused point in your under hood fuse box (I actually replaced my fuse with a circuit breaker). The owners manual should tell you where to hook it up. The 05 I had came with a wiring harness in the glove box for hooking up a brake controller. The controller wired to it and you plugged the harness into the fuse box on the drivers side of the dash. At that point all wiring to the plug at the back of the truck should be working. It is not necessary to have the 12V + wire hooked unless you need 12V to charge a trailer battery. I have a winch and electric/ hydraulic unit on my trailer with their own battery. The 12V terminal in the plug keeps it charged while driving. Wiring should be as it shows on your 7 pin cover. If all wiring is correct there may be a problem with the controller you bought.

I knw on my yukon, All I had to do was install a 30a maxi fuse under the hood in a 'provided' slot, and then take the short wire pigtail and plug that in under the dash, and then splice that pigtail to the pigtail on my hoppy controller.

I then had to swap 2 wires in my 7to6 pin adapter so i could use my 6pin trailer on my truck that was altready setup for 7pin.. etc.

took? 5 minutes to install I'd guess.
