Chevy 572ci crate motor

I was watching Trucks the TV show yesterday and they had a 572ci crate motor from chevy. It has 620HP and 65? Lb. Ft of torque. He was the first person to get one he said. I was wonder what you experts think the price will be? I am assuming it would be over 15k since the 502 is up there.

The price is probably similar to the 502. The last I heard they were still working bugs out of the 502ci engine control code; I wonder if they have the same problems with the 572ci. Seems someone lost the software, so they had to dissassemble code from the PROM, and rebuild/rewrite it to fix problems they were having. A friend bought the 502 and put it in a '72 SS Camaro. It sounded healthy, but wouldn't rev up because of the microcode problems. He talked directly to the software engineers, who were rebuilding the software.

They are pretty expensive, but it is a nice package, for just another Chevy motor(Sorry, I like Mopar's). I know the Mopar V10 crate motor, and the Hemi motors are all right up there in price too. It's a shame the Hemi is not offered in a FI configuration; that would be a wicked motor!

That sounds pretty bad. I wonder if they fired that guy? I would love to have that engine in a camaro but insurance for me would be 6000 for a 92 Z-28 and im sure having that engine in it wouldnt make it any cheaper.
I like all the big three. (dodge chevy ford) Would like to have that viper power pickup too but i guess you can always get the things you want.

I do not know about anyone getting fired, but seems someone should... I know Dick had talked directly to the engineer working on the project, but I do not know what the delivery date was; he might have the update by now. The engineer was pretty disappointed by the fiasco too. I know the engine was in the Camaro for about six months now, and it took about six months to get it in the first place. It sounded pretty healthy till about 4000rpm...

I would like to have another '74 Road Runner. It was the last real RoadRunner, and not known for performance. But, it handled nice, and I like the style. I think it would be fun to drop a viper/v10 crate motor in one, replacing the stock 318 or 360.

I should be talking to my friend today or tomorrow; I'll get an update on the 502.

Here's a <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?action=prod_detail&catid=120&pid=693>link</A> for the 502 Ram Jet for $8,825.80 plus $195.00 shipping. So, I can't imagine that a 572 would be double.

My mistake i thought the 502 was around 10 to 12 thousand.

How about the 454 HO? A bargain compared to the ram jet. I figure it would be easily capable of 400+ rear wheel horse power, with modestly priced intake, exhaust, and ignition parts. Crate motors are getting cheap if you dont need the biggest, newest thing. ($4500 for the 454HO). How about $2700 for a GT40 Ford engine? Straight from Ford's assembly line to Summit's shelves, 270 crankshaft hp with 3yr 30,000 mi warranty. I think that is amazing. A Ford person would be a fool to scrounge around building his own 5.0 liter with todays prices on crate motors.

I often thought about putting one of the crate motors in my 1991 K1500, but most of them indicate they can only be put into pre-emissions (1973) vehicles. /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif Of course, the current 350 is still going strong (well, as strong as a 350 can go /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif) at 110,000 miles, so I don't need a new engine yet.
