Are you sure its not stuck between high and low gear? I can not remember but I think you can manually select one by getting under it checking it.

If its internal it could be a gear, input shaft, axle, carrier, ect. Only way to know is getting it opened up and take a look.

The driveshaft spins, the every 5 or 6 seconds ,, it clunks,, or hits somthing ! Is the problems with these rear ends more in the pumpkin ,, or the axles? Tomorow im shooting for the best of the worst and going to pull the axle!

If it not what the others have said, it is also possible that the spider gears broke. When they break the ring gear will not turn the axles. You will have to pull the pumpkin if one of the axles isn't broke.

Mine did the same thing (1977 C60). Got in it and it wouldn't move. Thought it was the clutch. Left it in gear and got out and the drive shaft was turning. Fooled around with the button on the shifter and it went into gear. Was hung between high and low range.

Take the cover off the switch housing on the rear end. Have someone move the knob in the cab and you'll see that there is a plastic gear inside the housing that moves the rear end from high to low range (you shold also be able to hear it move w/o the truck running). This plastic gear can also strip. You can pick up a rebuild kit at most "good" auto parts stores (Think NAPA) if this is the problem.
