Chimney leaks water?

MarkV, are you familiar with water glass, also known as sodium scilicate? I think it would work for you. It is the material used to adhere fiberglass gaskets to wood burning stove doors. Sodium silicate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

in my opinion quickcrete will crack out in time clear silicone will move and wount crack.

My neighbor had the same problem. He tried to reseal it with no lasting results. What he did was made a cardboard templet then had a metal cap made for it by a sheet metal shop that does a lot of furnace work. It has 3" sides that go down over the brick and the simply put in a Tapcon Screw in the mortar Joints, a few on each side. Works like a charm and will last 30 years. I think it cost $60 to have it made and me and him installed it.

I used a tube to patch cracks on a chimney & it failed in a few years. Mixed up some mortar patch mix w/ fibefglass in it & trowelled it on. It's still good some 12 years later...
