Hello everyone. I'm a newbie on this site but have gained a lot of information by reading the various posts. I'm in the market for a compact and have looked at all the major brands and a few of the "others". It seems to me that the Chinese compacts are at least $1,000. less price than a comparable Japanese make. Of course I want to spend the least amount of $ but don't want to compromise quality for only a grand or two. Are the Chinese tractors substantially inferior in overall quality to the Japanese makes? Would appreciate your input. Thanks!

I don't own a Chinese tractor, I have seen one. I personally would not be interested in one. I think the Chinese products will eventually come up in quality, I don't think they are there now.

I agree with Rat. There's no comparison between a kubota and a chinese tractor.

Thanks, I kinda figured that but thought I'd ask. I think I'll go the "safe" route and not risk quality. What the heck.....it's only money /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes the quality of goods from main land China is definitely inferior to those from Japan. However, goods from Taiwan is quite a bit better, although still not at the Japanese level. Another thing that you need to look at carefully is the political climate over there. Since they are under a dictatorship, a shift in political leaning can easily mean a sudden stop in supply availability. I grew up in that part of the world, I've seen it. Sources for parts can disappear overnight and prices shoot up since every thing goes in through black market. BTW don't take this a fear mongering to dissuade you from getting a Chinese tractor. If you can handle those risks, you definitely will get a higher performance/price ratio.

Texas Ed... I would also suggest one option "country" you did not mention....." Korea ". Quality is very good, right behind i not neck-neck with the Japanese Brands... much better than Chinese... Kioti is the most well known, but you have the YTM making: Mahindra and Scorpion. LG making Montana, Farmtrac brands and Kukje making Branson & Century... They tend to be heavier although maybe not quite as sophisticated as the Japanese made.... You also can save some $$$.....

Just a thought.......... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

WELCOME TO THE FORUM! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif someone else mentioned to look at kioti, a bunch of guys are well pleased with theirs, they are a bit less $$$ i also have looked at Farmtrac they seem to be faily well made but a bit cluttered(my opinion) not sure how they are in price.

I tend to think that a Chinese (and Indian) tractor is a wife with a hitch on her, pulling a plow. Some of the wealthier men would have a water buffalo. Japanese usually have a little, BCS-size tractor with spiked wheels or at least big wheels to run the thing in rice paddies.

Think I've seen all 3 of these in my travels.

Amplification........

Mahindra has essentially two lines in the Compact Range....

Bluecheck is correct on the 15 Series Mahindra... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif made by Mitsubishi in Japan, same company that makes the Cub Cadets, automobiles, heavy equipment, and planes....... very good quality....

The Mahindra 10 Series however is made by YTM in Korea.........

It does get confusing..........
