I have a 250' drive that I wish to "chip-seal" instead of asphalt paving. I would like to be able to do this myself and was wondering if anyone else has already done this and would have some pointers.
I am interested in what product you used to seal with and how you applied it, how many inches of crushed rock you placed first, how many inches on top, etc.

Around here we can get recycled asphalt.

The asphalt plant recovers the old asphalt and runs it through the crusher so it comes out like 3/4" 'tarred gravel'.

We get a truck to chain dump so that he spreads it as he dumps and then I use my tractor with the back blade to grade and crown it.

We aim for about 4" coverage over a leveled hardpan/clay base.

On relitively steep slopes it stands up to water runoff very well.

Constant driving along with hot sun sticks the stuff back together for a graveled look drive.

A roller compactor will do an even better job, however not really necessary.

Here (Montreal area) they sell it for about $6.00/ton , roughly same as gravel, but much better.

Real chip sealing or 'slagging' is probably beyond the average consumer. Getting the aggregrate laid isn't abig deal. The liquid asphalt distribuitor and large volume of mix that is neded usualy is the make or break.
