I finally got my Bear Cat chipper delivered on Fri. I used it all weekend and I must say that I am very happy with it. 2 complaints... 1. It does not have a discharge tube, the chips just come out of the side and fall into a pile. Not a big deal, but every so often, I need to shovel out the chips to make room for more. I wish I would have spent a little more money and gotten the discharger. 2. I did not get a tamper for the shredder. The shredder works very well on larger branches, but on smaller twigs, it is difficult to get them down. My solution has been to put the small stuff in the hopper and then put a big branch in to clean everything out. I will be going out this week though to get the tamper.

The chipper handles up to 6" branches, and I can say that with my tractor it can actually handle that size pretty well. I have a JD 4310, and would not want anything smaller to use this chipper. I am clearing out a lot of brush and small trees, and this Bear Cat is making short work of it. I have a lot of Lopper Pines which this machine is ideal for. I can shred a 30' by 6" tree in a matter of seconds.

What surprises me the most is that most of the CUT dealers in town do not know a thing about chippers. Both the Kioti and teh JD dealer tried to talk me out of getting it. I ended up getting the JD CUT, so therefore I got the chipper from them, but they still tried to talk me out of it. When I was trying to figure out which chipper to get, they didn't seem to have a lot of knowledge. All in all though, I am very happy with my purchase. It is definately worth the money I spent.

AWESOME!! That is what I was hoping to hear. I need to buy or rent something that will run on my 4310 - You've exceeded what I wanted actually - I planned on chipping up to 4" stuff - you're dong 6" trees - that is dam*ed impressive.

Good luck with it - and yes, get the tamper... I get the willies everytime I think of someone shoving this stuff down with their hands. Here in CT we had a murderer "dispose" of his wife in just such a manner. Not a pretty picture... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Rob, I also have the Bearcat 70554 PTO Chipper and for the most part I am happy with it but I do wish I had gone with the next model up. Turns out I could get the blower and the different size mulch option for the same price as a 2 speed blower addition to the 70554. I too often have to kick the chips out of the way to clear the discharge. I also have a problem with the unit clogging up the screen constantly when chipping green leafy material such as Elm. I wonder if adding the 2-speed blower would help? I also purchased the fine screen but it only works well with dry material, forget about using it with anything fresh and green. I am already ready to flip my bladed around since they have become very dull, damm hardwood. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
