Has anyone used one of the 4" Chinese chippers on a BX series Kubota? I have a Massey GC2300 and am concerned about the weight of the chipper. The GC2300 has about the same 3 pth weight capacity as the BX.
I don't know about the Chinese chippers, but I asked my dealer about using the Woods 5000 on my BX and he said it would be no problem...they've sucessfully run them on machines with as little as 12 PTO HP. He did further talk about the fact that "how" you use the chipper can make a big difference...if you try to force the machine such that it looses momentum on the flywheel, it will require more omph from the tractor.
Bear Cat makes a 4" chipper/shredder that is rated for a 15hp gas / 13hp diesel tractor. It weighs 450lbs and is capable of chipping up to 5in. material. Retail with a 1yr warranty is $2599. I can give you a discount of 8% when you mention that you saw it online. Shipping on these is very cheap. These units have been around for a long time and are assembled here in the U.S. We have been a dealer for them for nearly 20yrs. Call Levi @ 1-800-287-2048 Envirochipper Home Page
I use a 4" capacity wallenstein bx 40 on my bx2200. As long as you keep the rpm's up it seems to take anything I throw at it. A 22 hp diesel is probably putting out 17 hp at the rear pto. Just about marginal but works OK.
