I was looking at wood chippers for my BX25 and thought I was going to get one of those Chinese units brand new. I was about to pull the trigger when I noticed a word of advise about checking to see if your tractor would lift it. I never thought about that. The weight of these things was 950lbs and guess what? BX won't do that. Crap was my though....back to looking at others. I really liked the looks of the Wallensteins but there were no dealers and the prices were higher that I wanted.....so Craigslist it was.

I found a used GME 18P chipper that was a Danuser unit by origin. It weighed only 525lbs and the price was right so I pulled the trigger. I got it home and installed my 3 point hitch kit as I had never used any rear attachment before and found that getting the chipper mounted was a pain in the ***. I also found the the pto shaft was too long. I thought for a moment and decided there must be an easier way and a quick hitch came to mind.

I bought a QH kit at Harbor freight and the next weekend I mounted it up. When I backed up to the chipper, the bottom pins did not match up to the QH and now the PTO was too short. Crap....this was not going well. I yanked the QH off and cut down the pto shaft and got to work chipping my many piles of white pine ice damage. Worked great....as I had 4" branches that just disappeared down the shoot into mulchville.

I guess I will try to return the QH kit to Harbor Freight and use the 3 pt as the pain that it is. I still can't figure out why the bottom arm don't want to slide over the pins when it appears there is slack and it should work.

Anybody else try a quick hitch on the rear of their BX?

I will add some pics later....Ryan

I'm interested... and YES please post some pics detailing the issue. I think I understand your dilemma but pics make it clear.

Good luck with the chipper.
If you were still looking, I would have advised you to contact Woodward Crossings out of PA. They sell Wallenstein Chippers and have great prices. I almost bought one until I found a used Patu Chipper on Craig's List.

I know when I mount any implement to my three point its a whole lot easier if I pull the pins on the stabilizer bars that hold the lower links solid. Since all my implements are on pallets and the pallet sits on the ground - there is no such thing, for me, as a level playing field. I need every break I can get, otherwise it can turn in a shouting bout and I ALWAYS loose those. Skinned knuckles, banged knees or bruised feet.

Awhile back I bought the same HF quick hitch and had the same problem. None of my implements matched up and would require modifications which I was unwilling to do. Do yourself a favor and check out the Pat's Easy system. I bought one and have been very happy with it. You can check out some videos on You Tube and there are threads here that cover it as well. Have fun with the chipper. I recently picked up a used BearCat and can't wait for the warmer weather to try it out.

I use a HF QH on my BX 25. Had to modify the QH to make it work. Width of the bottom hooks was 1/4" too wide, pins to attach to tractor were 3/4 instead of 7/8, and the top hook had to be lengthened 3/4. All no problem in my metal shop. Saved a lot of $. I have a 6" Chinese chipper and my BX lifts fine. Not sure the weight as the manual does not state. Oh, BTW I raised my hyd pressure to 2000#; that increased the lift capacity.

By the time I learned about quick hitches, I already had two or three implements that weren't going to work with one - I measured. After dealing with manually hooking up implements for about 3-4 years, I decided to get a set of EZ-hitches from Carter and Sons. One thing I like about them (vs Pat's, besides the lower price) is that they don't move the lift points further out. This was important since I also have a PTO chipper and didn't want to have to get a PTO extender.

Chris...I don't see how the lift point isn't moved back a couple inches with that EZ Hitch. I think I would have to buy a new pto shaft with that as the off-set seems to be about the same as the HF quick hitch. The shaft had already been cut by the previous owner, but was still too long for normal 3 pt hook- up so I cut it again for the BX.

Ron...I got the H/F hitch mounted up ok but I was going to need a bushing kit for the implement pins as well as a longer PTO shaft. I was not willing to spend the money yet as I don't have but the one rear implement at this time. I would welcome the ease of hook-up though.

Thanks for reply's...Ryan

Chris, I went to the Carter website and I see how these won't add distance between tractor and implement now. They are the bomb. I think I will have to get a pair of those. It looks like they are just up the road as well. Thanks again.

Shop around some. I forget where I got mine, but they were only maybe $80 shipped to my door. The price on the Carter & Son's sight is a lot higher than I paid a year+ ago. Search on e-bay to see what they're going for there. Hope they work out for you if you do get them.

Finally snapped a picture of the new (old) chipper. It was kept in a greenhouse so there is a fair amount of surface rust, but it was used very little and works like a charm.
