I was looking at wood chippers for my BX25 and thought I was going to get one of those Chinese units brand new. I was about to pull the trigger when I noticed a word of advise about checking to see if your tractor would lift it. I never thought about that. The weight of these things was 950lbs and guess what? BX won't do that. Crap was my though....back to looking at others. I really liked the looks of the Wallensteins but there were no dealers and the prices were higher that I wanted.....so Craigslist it was.
I found a used GME 18P chipper that was a Danuser unit by origin. It weighed only 525lbs and the price was right so I pulled the trigger. I got it home and installed my 3 point hitch kit as I had never used any rear attachment before and found that getting the chipper mounted was a pain in the ***. I also found the the pto shaft was too long. I thought for a moment and decided there must be an easier way and a quick hitch came to mind.
I bought a QH kit at Harbor freight and the next weekend I mounted it up. When I backed up to the chipper, the bottom pins did not match up to the QH and now the PTO was too short. Crap....this was not going well. I yanked the QH off and cut down the pto shaft and got to work chipping my many piles of white pine ice damage. Worked great....as I had 4" branches that just disappeared down the shoot into mulchville.
I guess I will try to return the QH kit to Harbor Freight and use the 3 pt as the pain that it is. I still can't figure out why the bottom arm don't want to slide over the pins when it appears there is slack and it should work.
Anybody else try a quick hitch on the rear of their BX?
I will add some pics later....Ryan
