Chipper/Shredder question good price?

I don't have much information yet, but my brother said he knows of a chipper/shredder for sale for like $1500 that is gas driven and tow behind. Supposedly takes up to 16" logs? 16" SOUNDS huge to me for a chipper! I think its a used professional (read Dangerous!) sort. -Tim

Sounds like what I have. 16" drum chipper powered by a Ford 330 V8. Weighs about 4K lbs. Affectionately known as a chuck & duck. Drum intake pulls about 100'/min intake - about 10X faster than a modern hydraulic chipper.

Mine was about $800.

I wouldn't consider any chipper safe, big & old is worse.

Thanks Barry! So $1500 doesn't sound like a 'steal' huh? I'll take a look at the thing this weekend at least... EBAY offers made 1500 sound like a good price, but you're right on with the 16" info and i couldn't find one like that on ebay.. thx

You may have a deal. Mine came out of a junkyard initially wanted $2400. Had to rewire, add trailer lights, tires, and battery.

Check the bearings before you buy they will tell the maintenance story. Look for grease in the bearings before shiny paint.

Makes quick work of cleanup no need to limb if it fits into the chute the drum grabs it & gone.
