I had one put in my new pool during install last summer. We love it. Had to add a bit more salt once to get it to the correct ppm. After that, just set the dial to the %/hr to run (I think we ended up at 30%). Kids can swim with eyes open all day and not end up with stinging/red eyes. You can taste a slight salt, but just barely. I'm very happy with it. It may not be a hassle to test and add Cl every week... but it's less to do nothing!

Thanks Eric. I figured the chances of someone having a pool here @ TBN and then having a salt water setup were remote. I have heard nothing but good, no great things from dealers and the internet but no folks who actually have them. Your input is much appreciated. Mark

We've had ours since 2001, we have a 20 X 40 inground pool. Only way to go in my opinion. We usually add 50-100 pounds of salt per year, due to evaporation and splashing. Females in our family love it since it doesn't bleach their hair; or color it green if they have dyed it. No burnt eyes due to too strong chlorine level, no tears or skin allergies. We had foster children and some became extremely agitated when we went swimming in a "regular" chlorine pool. They didn't have a problem in ours. We don't spend much each year on chemicals, just Metal Magnet to keep the copper, iron, mag, etc down.
Are you contemplating a pool or changing to the salt water system?

I moved into a home with a pool. I was buying some chemicals after our pool got a bit overwhelmed with the rain/mud on Dec 31 forcing me to drain the whole thing. I drained, cleaned and refilled it and added some chemicals for PH and saw the chlorine/salt generators. My sister is currently building a pool and they are going that route. It struck my curiosity so it looks pretty good I'll do it. A snap to plumb in. Easy hook up. Our pool is about 20,000 gallons so 600 lbs of salt or so and we would be set. Most folks in my area have pools, just none with chlorine/salt generators. I appreciate the feedback. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Thanks, Rat...

We have one. You'll have no regrets. Easy to maintain chlorine levels. No caustic chlorine to store. We like it.
I had one at our house in Orange Park,FL I didn't care much for it. It was there when I bought the house and the chlorine level wouldn't stay up in the pool. I fiddled around with it for a few weeks, had the pool guy out and I think it needed some type of semi-permeable membrane replaced. I just took it out and started using tabs in the skimmer. That was easier for me.

Ours does not have any kind of membrane. There are some electrolytic plates inside that can get covered with scale if they are not cleaned periodically. Scale can impair the performance of the generator. Other than that, they are maintenance free.
