I have a 2012 RZT-S46 with a Kohler engine that I have owned since new. Sometimes it is hard to start when cold-otherwise runs great. Just started the spring thing-new oil, filter, plugs etc. I don't think the choke plate is closing enough...I tried adjusting cable with no luck. I wish the combo throttle/choke control were separate so I was wondering if I can put in a separate choke knob/pull...has anyone done this?

GaryZee,

Just yesterday I started my Z Force for the first time since storing it last fall. It cranked and cranked but refused to fire.

So before I ran the battery down, I filled a syringe with 30 cc's of fuel, removed the air cleaner filter, and fired the fuel into the throat of the carb. 1.5 seconds later the engine coughed to life, fired up, and after running for two minutes and then a shutdown, I was able to fire it right back up. It takes a while to pull the fuel from the tank to the carb after sitting for a while. Its cheaper than a separate choke cable setup, and may work for you as well.

I always have a bunch of old syringes in varying sizes around the shop for just this kind of a job, and for firing oil into the cylinders after removing the spark plugs. It keeps the pistons from seizing in the bores over those long winters. Good Luck!

solid lifter motor? if it cranks hard like a weak battery or bad starter? try adjusting the valves. to loose they will crank hard when cold or hot. too tight they stall when hot.
