I am looking to get a hydraulic auger setup for my bucket. I have 11.1 gpm available at my 3rd function.

Land Pride offers 2 variants: HD25 and HD35

Specs:
HD25
Flow: 5-12 GPM
Torque: 700 ft-lbs
HD35
Flow: 10-25 GPM
Torque: 1605 ft-lbs

Which one should I go for? Will the HD35 actually be under-powered being at the low end of the acceptable flow range?

They are offering two different hyd motors with different cu in displacements.

The larger hyd motor with the larger displacement will have the most torque. This motor will cost more.

GPM's also determines speed of the hyd motor.

Using 2500 psi

12 GPM's, 20 cu in, =139 rpm, 663 lbs of torque

12 GPM's, 40 cu in, =49 rpm, 1327 lbs of torque

25 GPM's, 20 cu in, =289 rpm, 663 lbs of torque

25 GPM's, 40 cu in, =144 rpm, 1327 lbs torque

In order to get that torque of 1605 lbsfrom the 25 GPM's they would have to have used about a 49 cu in hyd motor.

All my figures were based on direct drive, but I now see that a hyd motor is driving a gear box, and the torque might be at the shaft of the gear box.

You also get torque multiplication by using gears, so if you know the torque of the hyd motor, and you know the gear box ratio, then you can figure the overall torque, and also the shaft rpm.

I believe the HD-35 uses an 18 cu in hyd motor.

J J,

I know you are "The Man" when it comes to hydraulics and I am so gad you jumped in my thread!

Obviously more torque is better than less torque for an auger.

I assume my 11.1 gallons will run the HD35 more slowly than it would run the HD25 (less rpm). Landpride says both are rated for the same max RPM.

Do you feel this is acceptable? Should I be going for the HD25 or HD35?

If they have the same rpm, they have matched up the cu in with the gear ratio to give a certain rpm.

I would get the one matched closer with your tractor GPM.s.

If you get the larger one, the HD-35, you can not achieve the rpm of the larger auger, because they are using 25 GPM's to get that speed. Sand, clay, rocks etc.

The HD-35 will probably cost more.

If the price is the same, then the HD-35 will provide more torque, because of the larger cu in hyd motor.

The max rpm will be lower , and it will take more time, but will depend on the ground type.

If you use a motor spool control valve , you will have reverse also.

I plan to run the auger off my 3rd function. This, I believe, will give me reverse as I can choose the direction of the hydraulic flow.

I would get the HD35 if the budget allows for it. I have no doubt that the 35 is a lot more money than the 25 though. The auger does not need to turn very fast. With my pto PD35 I dig at an idle only, no reason to bump up the rpms. I'm guessing that the hydraulic units are similar to auger rpm, so you may need to raise your rpms a little to get the bigger hydraulic motor to spin better with the lower GPM of your tractor.

I am curious what the cost difference is between the 2. I know that for me, my PD35 was $1000 more than the PD25. But you usually get what you pay for. ;)

I have no clue on the price difference at this point. I was quoted $1675 for the HD25 + 9" auger + bucket mount/hose kit.

Belltec seems to sell a model that is designed for 6-15 gpm. Torque is 1419 ft-lbs.

Seems to be about the same $1600.

The Beltic unit may be the unit to get.
