The Holiday Season is finally upon us! Some merchants... well MOST merchants, got a little early start with their pre-season advertisements back before Halloween. The rest began their Black Friday sales a least two weeks before Thanksgiving.
But - that's all history. Black Friday is finally here. Time to run out into the crowds at the Big Box stores and spend more money than we can really afford. After all, who could resist buying a football player Bobble Head for Aunt Lucille? And a hand painted ash tray for Uncle Thomas, who has smoked for over 40 years? Those that can't or won't run out, spend countless hours fretting over internet ads, trying to figure out what's real and what's faux.
Some of us have already started putting up our Christmas decorations. I know I have. I now have little pine trees scattered about with a sprinkling of fresh smelling cedars. Pine cones placed around the yard with pine needles cuddling them. All of the trees were strategically placed by Mother Nature.
And on the more extreme side, I have 7 statues strategically placed around the place, all wearing only a symbolic sheet wrapped around them with at least one bob showing. I'm not sure, but I THINK they're supposed to be some sort of Roman figure. Regardless, they're entrancing to some of the younger visiting male relatives
Another choice decoration of ours is a statue of the Angel of Justice; a 12 year old girl holding a balance plate in each hand. Her likeness is seen in the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

She serves double duty of serving fresh bird seed daily, and ample sunflower seeds for the squirrels. And, if I forget to put out a splash of corn for the deer, Bambie comes by at dusk to clean out the remaining seed left by the birds.
All of the above work that we've already done is beautifully accented with azaleas, geraniums, mums, and ferns about the yard and around the "sitting down in the rockers porch", all in full bloom.
Just to ease your anxiety, the three Grass Carp in both ponds are now over 3' long, and look like vacuum cleaners when we toss some floating fish food out for the perch and bass. They're doing well.
So, with all of that Christmas Season preparation done, it's now time for me to ease up on the workload, sit back and just watch the fish grow in the ponds, watch the squirrels play, and watch Bambie learning how to stand up without wobbling or falling down. Today we're enjoying a mid-70s temperature, so most likely we won't be snow sledding today. We'll likely get our chance at that though in a month or so if and when Mother Nature pounds us with a dreadful 2" of snow one day in January. There nothing like a (post) White Christmas, right?
ah... Grass Cutting Season is only 3 months away. Time to do my bi-annual lawnmower maintenance. No rest for the wicked, they say.
