Good news! I got a job. I believe its a step up. Time will tell. Its in sales so I have a lot to learn and a fairly big territory to drive around in. I am lucky, our competitor just announced a 10% reduction in personnel. 1200 unlucky folks. My boss tells me our company has let attrition slim us down over the last 3 years.

I had gotten to the top of what I could make in a machine shop and so when I got offered this, I jumped on it. Now I get to call on machine shops and be the guy who takes people to lunch.

I have to go to Detroit for the 1st time in my life the last week in February. Ron Hall, you got any pointers for survival???

To make it worse, I haven't flown commercially since 9/11 so I've got to learn all the ins and outs of going thru security.

Anyway, its good to be working again.

Congratulations, Kyle. Glad to hear you found something you like. I've only been to Detroit once and it was quite an experience, but since it was 30 years ago, I'm sure it's different now. The hotel advised all guests to never open the door to your room without looking through the peephole first, and then to only open the door if you knew the person on the other side or if he/she was wearing one of the hotel's brown jackets. They also advised against walking anywhere in the area, although my boss and I did walk a couple of blocks one night to a restaurant. I did see one badly bloodied fellow come in from the parking lot after being mugged one evening. And we found an excellent seafood restaurant some distance from the hotel. The taxi ride getting there was uneventful, but on the return trip our cab driver was drunk out of his mind. But the hotel had a show every evening with 4 guys who played a variety of instruments and imitated everyone from the Mills Brothers to the McGuire Sisters and just put on a fabulous show. I thoroughly enjoyed that week in Detroit.

Yea, I'm kind of worried about going up there too. I'll be up around 14 mile road and I75. Anyone know how much I should be looking over my shoulder???
