I posted this in the Hydraulics Forum and I thought I'd also post it in this Forum.

ARPS got out of the snowblower business in the early '80's and do not support their old machines with spare parts anymore. They were build as sturdy as a brick sh**house and probably didn't need much support!

They used a doubled ended hydraulic cylinder and a cable to rotate the chute. The cylinder rod was supported on both ends and the cable was attached to the cylinder. The cylinder moved back and forth (laterally) and that rotated the chute. The cylinder was about 20 inches long and the rod was ~45 inches long.

I have a parts list but it doesn't mention a manufacturer. Maybe it was made in house. I've done a bunch of google searches and I haven't been able to find anything like that. I'm going to contact ARPS and see if they can point me in the right direction. While I await that answer, does anybody know where I might find that cylinder or one like it? I can design a work around using a DA cylinder and a slider on a rod, or a motor/shaft system but I'd like to see if I can find the OEM solution first. I don't want to use electrics because the hydraulic supply is readily available

Any help the folks on this forum can provide will be appreciated.

Hello Jerry,

I hope all is well in Gods Country.

About your cylinder, it should still have a stamped name plate
on it. If not the cylinder is repairable or replaceable.

I would suggest that you visit the Prince Hydraulics
web page and you can most likely find what you need
there and order the model locally or from Prince itself.

The double rod ended cylinders went out of favor with
the introduction of the double acting cylinder using a cam
arm witha radial arm to rotate the chute.

I am sure you can still obtain replacement though from
Prince or another another cylinder builder.

I wil post a few links for your use here shortly.

Hello Jerry,

I do not see a problem matching up a parker cylinder for your needs as all you need to do is have the cylinder matched up with the specs for new one from a hydraulics repair shop and order it from a Parker retailer.

What you have to do is find the diameter of the rod, the cylinder barrel diameter, the stroke length total for the rods, the thread size for the yokes, and then you can order the right replacement. most likely the fittings/hose size are either number 4 or 6.

I found a used 1" x5/8"x20" double rod end cylinder on ebay and bought it. It was less than $60 with shipping. Now I'll have to design and fab some mounts and get some hoses made for it.
