City of Grand Prairie, Thanks for Nuthin\'
This is actually a tractor post in a round-about way. In the past year, I've been moving into my new house in the country while getting my old house in Grand Prairie, TX ready to sell. For one reason or another, the time to sell has not been good. First, the sewer main runs across my back yard and for several months my yard was a construction site as the sewer line was replaced (see attachment). Next, they have been building a development across the street in front of my house and it was an eyesore until about two months ago.
Just last weekend, the slow seeping water leak I've reported many times to the city really let go and flooded the street beside my house. The main break was just behind my driveway (also shown in the attachment). On Monday, the city dug up the pipe and I stopped by to see how the progress was coming. What I found almost made me laugh and cry at the same time. For the first time in months I didn't have my camera with me.
As I approached my block, I noticed the street had cones blocking all traffic and the limb highlighted in the attached photo was in pieces all over my yard and in the street. Several workers were standing around scratching their heads and other parts of their anatomy as I approached. On a trailer sat a brand new John Deere 310E. The right front of the cab was smashed to bits. Glass was everywhere. It seems that after working on the water line repair for half a day, the workers had finished the repair and filled in the hole. They loaded the tractor on their trailer and then drove it right under the tree limb they had been dodging with the boom all morning. Smash! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif ...Duh! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
To make matters worse, all they had was a concrete saw to cut the limbs. Do you know how hot that blade gets? I think they were burning their way through the limbs as much as cutting them. It's pretty sad to think that the money we pay in city water and sewer bills goes to pay the salary of folks like this. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
AARGH! Please Lord. Just let me get this house sold and get away from the City of Grand Prairie soon. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
