Mine was very stiff to shift and I found the knob was not screwed on very far. I got under the tractor removed the linkage at the piviot, put a wrench on the piviot, sprayed with lube and worked back and forth. That freed it up a good bit. I did make and extension for the lever screwed the knob down completely on the extension and it has been fine eve since.
