My ck20HST lost it's 4WD. Got stuck this summer at an incline that never had a problem climbing in reverse. Had to use backhoe to pull the tractor up. Thought it was because very wet grass/mud. First snowfall today, started to plow, all tractor did was keep spinning RR Wheel. NO 4WD!! Thought this tractor was always in 4WD, has a small pedal at your left heel to step down on to LOCK axles. Using it has no effect. Never had this problem, there is no switch or lever that is used on this tractor for 4WD. No problem or noise forward or backwards from transmission, high or low range, before snowfall. Tractor has 450 hours on it. What broke, came loose, disconnected or popped? Any Help? It's still snowing!!!!!

Hopefully a member with a CK20hst will respond. Do you know it's model year which may help some? That pedal you mention should be for the locking differential of the rear axle only so both rear wheels put power to the ground. My CK30hst does have a lever, just to the right of that pedal, to engage the front wheels so I can be either 2wd of 4wd. I thought the CK20s were built the same way.

Mine had a lever under/by the seat to shift in and out of 4X4. Should be a sticker on the sheet metal that shows in and out of gear. Don’t have mine anymore so can’t take pics.

I found this in an online CK20 maunual but it didn't tell me for what year of tractor so it may not apply. Hopefully someone with the same model and year will chime in. Screenshot_20181128-213358.jpeg

I hit send too soon. The discussion thread I pointed to above is from 2006. It seems things can seize up and lubrication of links solved the issue for them.

After the stream of foul language, I cleared the snow from around L.R. Wheel and saw the 4WD linkage bent and hanging loose. The way it bent, it rubbed against the brake rod so when I moved the lever it felt like it was engaging. Got the linkage back in shape, put in stronger cotter pin and plowed my driveway. Amazing what a 10 cent cotter pin can do! Thanks for the input all!!

Excellent. $200 float charge, $100 per hour, $10 shop charges, plus tax - all saved!

Good save, and good info from posters too.
FWIW, the year of purchase is not necessarily the date of manufacturer; meaning the tractor could have been manufactured in '05, or '04, and sold in '06. The serial # dictates the year of manufacture, which can be of significance as to dates of factory changes in production of parts and modifications to numerous items on a series of models of CK-20's etc. Workshop manuals have the serial # coding broken down to year of manufacture in the front pages.
Ask your selling dealer what your s/n equates to for your particular tractor for future reference.
