My 2011 CK20HST failed to start about a month ago. I hopped on it and let the glow plug heat up about half way then tried to start. The engine turned over but would not run. Ran the battery down some and hooked up the charger and went home. Tractor was at my mother's farm so it was a couple days later when I tried again with no luck. Changed the fuel filter, still no start. Tried bleeding the lines and could get fuel to the pump but not to the injectors. Called the dealer and he said a injector rail (?) might be frozen up. He started to tell me what to do and I told him to come get it and fix it.

Anyway, the total bill was $273.87. A charge of $212 for picking up and dropping off the tractor, $60 for labor, and $1.87 for the blown fuse.

Yep, the injector pump is controlled by a computer and a fuse had blown.

Expensive lesson, but better than an injector pump.

A freaking fuse on a DIESEL INJECTOR PUMP.

$273.87 for a fuse and I'm actually happy about it because it could have been something serious and (more) expensive.

My sister who had a heavy equipment diesel mechanic for a husband can't talk to me without laughing.

Oh well, live and learn.

Now, had you come here first we could have told you to check the fuse, among other possible causes.:confused3:
Moral of story: ALWAYS run stuff by the members of TBN before calling your dealer for a tow....

Well, the current version of the stop solenoid requires an electric current to retract the plunger. If the plunger is not retracted, a spring within the stop solenoid holds the injection pump rack in the full off position where zero fuel gets delivered to the injectors; which is how the engine gets turned off in normal operation. There are several electrical components (fuses, wires, relays, and the display unit) which can prevent starting even with a healthy fuel system. The acid test would be to unbolt the stop solenoid and see if she starts. But this solenoid makes a loud and distinct sound when you turn the key to on so you should be able to diagnose this (no stop solenoid retraction) easily by just listening.

Sounds right. The injector pump is not computer controlled either. It is fully manual, but the fuse does power the stop solenoid. I am glad it is fixed, but sorry it cost so much. We live and learn.

For reference on the DK series there are actually 2 fuses that if blown would cause the engine stop solenoid not to retract/hold the 25 amp engine stop fuse and the 10 amp fuse that runs the hold coil.. since the solenoid has 2 coils the pull coil that initially and a low current coil that holds it back.
