I encountered a problem with our 2008 ck20 hst the other day and figured I’d post about incase anyone else has a similar problem.
We had been experiencing a strange scrapping/squealing noise coming from the clutch/bellhousing area for quite some time when using the loader and lifting heavy.
With the loader off the problem would not occur. Even a trip to the dealer could not determine the exact cause of the problem.
Fast forward to a couple weeks ago and the squealing suddenly got worse. We turned the tractor off and went to try and restart it and the engine was bound up and wouldn’t turn over. A large chunk could be felt under your left foot.
We ended up splitting the tractor today and found that 4 of the 8 bolts that hold the adapter plate to the back of the engine had backed out and were rubbing on the flywheel. One finally came out far enough and dropped into a balance hole in the flywheel and this caused the tractor lockup on the restart attempt.
Bolt did not look to have any loctite applied from factory. Fairly east fix but figured I’d share as it was something we were having difficulty diagnosing for a little while.
Only other thing to note was the clutch friction disk had significant wear in the spring holder area. Not sure if this is a common problem or not. It’s an hst so the clutch isn’t used much and lots of life left in the friction material.
