While taking my KB-2375 backhoe off the other day, I didn't think when the backhoe dropped a bit when I removed the hoses and the pressure released. I hopped on the tractor and started to move forward slowly, thinking the sub-frame was clear.. NOT! I snapped my hydraulic filter off!

what are mess with most of the 7 gallons of Hydraulic oil coming out. Hopefully I'll have the new part in a day or two.

Anyone every try to protect the hydraulic filter on a Ck 25? Is there a smaller Filter I can place on it?

But, I learned my lesson.. except my foot still hurts from kicking things.

Appreciate that you took the time to share your heart aches with us. I'm going to be vigilant of that dilemma when I make the switch from my back hoe to the snow blower. I'm assuming the CK25 filters line up the same way as do my CK20 filters.

thanks for the reminder

the subframe for my woods backhoe provides a strong place to mount a crossmember there right by the filter and i was always going to do it...

I'm not sure about a smaller filter, although I remember someone making a skid pan for the bottom of their tractor to protect the filter. I know some members keep the replacement fix kit around just in case it happens again. Maybe they will chime in, (I'm not going to name names because with my luck I'd probably snap mine off the next time I use the tractor  ), and let you know just how easy or difficult it is to fix.

I've broken off a couple of them now and had to replace the filter mounts both times. That filter is very expensive but the mount isn't too bad. Be sure to get the right one for your transmission as they are different between HST and gear.

In my case(s) the damage was caused by junk on the ground reaching/popping/poking up and grabbing the filter when brushhogging. The unfortunate thing about a HST tractor is that everything but the PTO shaft runs off of the hydraulics so when that filter is compromised there is no steering, no lifting of the mower deck, no forward motion, and no lifting of loader. I trailer my tractor to the worksite so this is a big deal.

The new filter mount comes with a new filter as a kit and is really quite easy to replace. You didn't lose 7 gallons of fluid, more like 3 but it does make a mess.

This happened to the 2nd CK30 bought by me. It is not used by me,
but I got the parts and it was less than $100, fortunately. Of course,
the fluid adds $10/gal, depending on how much you lost.

My backhoe subframe protects the filter on my own CK.

The replacement hit is actually cheap. About $50, I also bought the HST filter and the oil filter and all cost me $86. The part was simple to install.. but lining the hydraulic lines up was a pain at first. I think it took about 20 minutes to put it in. And I lost about 5 gallons of fluid.. so add another $30 for the fluid. I decided it was a good time to just change all my hydraulic fluid.
I ordered the parts on Monday and they had them Thursday morning.

Still kicking myself, when the backhoe dropped a bit I should had double checked that I was clear. I wish there was a way to place a cage around it to protect it.

My 2 cents.. they could make it easier and have a screw in goose neck and not one whole piece for the filter. This way it's a really simple fix.

Both times that my filter housing broke it was just the threads that stick into the filter that snapped off. Even just making a threaded insert instead of cast and machined threads would make this job easier. Of course, the filter is remote mounted with lines leading to it so there is no real reason that the filter has to be in this terrible location in the first place.

I just bought a ck25 gear,it will be delivered late this week, the dealer is building and attaching a box to protect the Hyd. filter. I will see how it works the first time I take hoe off and than put back on.
When it arrives I will see if I can put up some pictures.

Hmmm.. When I pulled my BH off a few months ago... I never considered this issue. I will be very careful putting it back on in a few weeks.

OldTrout- Box cover to protect filter sounds interesting.. please post pics, of tractor and box cover... we like pictures, especially of tractors on action. :)
Welcome to the Pack, have fun with your new toy, be safe.
