Unlike some of the postings on the joystick malfunctions, the one we have is just the locknut coming loose and allowing the stick to flop every which way while still allowing it to operate. The only way to tighten it appears to be by forcing the boot open enough to reach down through and temporarily tighten it.
Does anyone have a more permanent solution that perhaps doesn't jeopardize the boot so much and one that may keep it tight for a while? Torque specs?
Locktite?............................any and all replies appreciated.

No need to reach in there with a wrench at all. It's just a locknut and let the joystick be the wrench. You'll need to twist the floppy joystick CCW until the rubber boot is somewhat bound up (say 90 degrees) and then feel through the rubber boot to find the locknut and thread it CW until it bottoms out, hold CW tension on that nut while you turn the joystick CW to tighten. Loosen and repeat as necessary to get the desired joystick orientation.

If you feel compelled to remove the rubber boot and set the locknut with loktite then you will get the same results.

Mine was floppy and then tightened in the field. Hasn't come loose since.

Mine went "loose" on delivery day, the dealer sent a tech out the very next day to fix it. Which he did in about five-ten minutes, by the time I got back out with his coffee it was completed. So alas I did not get to observe the operation. About a year later it did it one more time and I did Highbeam's method which worked for awhile. Then finally I managed to get at it another way from beneath the tractor by loosening the two bolts that mount the valve body to the tractor and dropping it down just enough to get at the lock nut with a small wrench(the joystick lock out tab stops it from going further). This works OK in a pinch but after talking to one of the techs about replacing my rubber boot(tore mine slightly) I'm going with their method. Which to remove the red nob on top of the 3pt lever, remove the grey molding around the lever and I believe the seat platform you will have unfettered access to the valve assembly. I plan on putting the Locktite to it when I do the boot replacement. Also will lube those balls in the valve while I have it apart as some have suggested.

Good luck with which ever way you choose.

Ha! Bastardly thing. Mine's gone loose twice, once in a driving rain and again in last week's snow. Naturally.

I'd read the fix here on this site and confidently went to work. Of course I proceeded to NOT be able to remove the know on the 3-point control lever so I could access it properly. So I got aggravated and just pried the boot up and tightened it down. Did the same thing the other day, in the dark. So far no obvious damage to the boot but I'm certain it can't be good for it. If I ever take it off in the dry daylight I'll add some Locktite! -WSJ
