I thought the CK was a good contender for my needs but now i read that the PTO HP is only 23.5 HP, is this correct? That is quite a drop from the 30 HP engine. Also the CK sounds heavy for its catagory, why is that?

You're correct on the HP, seems like most tractors have less PTO HP than engine HP. I bought mine because it was heavy for it's size.

You like it? Seem like an awesome tractor. What do you use it for? How is the power?

I'm new to tractors and only have 12 hours on it, so take what I know with a grain of salt. I like it real well, my place is heavily wooded with a lot of rock. I use it to move brush and box blade the road so far. I'll be mowing with it as soon as I find a rotary cutter. So far I haven't had any problems, it's built like a tank and does what I need it to do.

Pretty much all tractors lose some HP from engine to PTO, that's usual. HP also tends to be a little bit higher than MFGs report at times. Run on a dyno, most tractors will proof out a little higher than posted HP.
Do you need more HP than the CK30 has? It's a heavier tractor, and to many of us, heavier means better traction without having to add weight. Adding weight is great for ballasting, but to get overall weight, you have to start with a tractor that's built heavy. The CK30 is built with cast iron and steel with a platform style operators station, this adds up to higher weight. Of course, it your needs call for lighter, then the CK30 isn't for you.
Look at most any of the Kubota, NH, or John Deere models in a comparable HP, and you'll find most all will be much lighter.
Give me weight any time. I like my tires on the ground pulling, not spinning.

If you are purchasing a HST it is a little less PTO HP that the gear drive. I just purchased a CK30 gear drive with the shuttle shift and it is very easy to operate. I have a 5ft bush hog that it runs with no problem. It is rated for a 6ft bush hog. I don't know what you need to do with it, but mine has plenty of power.

All of your tractors will have a 6-7 hp difference to the pto, depending upon transmission type. As far as weight goes, I have the Ck30 hst and ive needed every bit of its weight almost constantly. My loader picks my tractor right off the ground, even with a 500 lb boxblade on the back. Unless your using the tractor for strictly lawn mowing , youll be glad you have the weight.. I love this tractor, im approaching my 50 hr service and youd be amazed at what its done..

Since hydrostat transmission being introduced in CUT since the '80's, the PTO HP being sucked out of them hasn't improved much since then. It is the nature and the trade off of the convenience

I also own a ck30hst tlb. The point in the weight, which John already mentioned. I've done alot with my tractor already its amazing how much you can get done with this little beast. I'm very impressed.
