ck30/kl130 with Paynes\' forks report

Just for your information...I bought some of the light duty Payne's clamp on forks for my ck30 with kl130 front end loader. I chose the light duty forks.

I went by the nearby orchard packing house anf tried lifting a 40 bushel pallet of apples. The estimated weight was 800 lbs.

The loader with forks lifted the load with no problems. There was about a 1/2" deflection of the lower portion of the bucket where the clamps were attached....but nothing permanent.

I would say the forks work well with the kl130. 800 is about the limit due to bucket deflection though. The hydraulics had no problem whatsoever lifting though. I was at only about 1200 rpm!

That would be my only concern with those forks. They can be hard on the bucket bottom.

Right. I assumed clamp on forks are for light duty only. It's not a forklift by any means. Still, for the price, they seem to have good utlity. I'm sure I could really tear up a brush pile or load of plywood with them.

The hydraulic system of the ck130 seems strong. If the forks had a link or member tied to the top of the bucket near the pins it could prob handle a good bit more.

What kind of price range are we talking about? Sounds good...

The forks were $265 plus $25 shipping. I could have welded my own up, but considering the high price of steel right now I thought that was a pretty good deal. They seem to be well made.

You know, I was just looking again at the forks. I think I will mount some reinforcement extending from the back of the fork to the bucket area near the upper pins. A bolt on steel bar or a chain with turnbuckles would work.

While the clip ons can handle a few hundred pounds without bending going over a bump or something with a load might be enough to deform the bucket bottom.

The reinforcement would greatly increase the strength, and would require just a few bolt holes.

I agree, i have no doubt that eventually, i would attempt to lift too much with those forks, i am definatly going to modify something that attaches to the top and bottom of the bucket. There are bucket forks on the market that do this, but they 'ain't cheap...$400-700, so a little "tweaking" of the Paynes may be the way to go.

Re: ck30/kl130 with Paynes\' forks report

I have the exact same setup (CK30HST, Payne's light duty forks). I must say I was impressed with Payne's shipping...I ordered the forks and they showed up a few days later...at the time I had no tractor /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Anyway...I bent both of the forks the first day I had them. The steel on top of the fork (the portion that slides into the bucket and has the yellow screw handle) bent up. I'm not sure exactly what did it (although I have my ideas) but I haven't made it any worse since then (I am a lot more careful with them now). The forks are still in good working condition and I use them a lot!!! I've used them to scoop and carry about 20 stumps, 60 logs/tree trunks, pallets of stone for my foundation and a whole bunch of other stuff.

In all they are very practical and very easy to use.

Re: ck30/kl130 with Paynes\' forks report

Yeah, normal use of the bucket probably is such that a hydraulic relief valve will go off before metal gets bent. That sure isn't the case with bucket forks.

I looked a little at options and I think the best bet is to drill holes in the top of the bucket near the upper pin...between the reinforcing flanges. Mount hardened eye bolts there. Then run a turnbuckle down to another eye bolt screwed into a tapped hole on the front upper clamp member on the fork. The eye bolts on the bucket can be used for chain attach for fence pulling etc. (need to do a lot of that)

Sound like a plan?

Search Ebay for loader forks, there are several on sale that come with chains that go around the bucket.
