Kioti CK30HST FEL
Picked up a new CK30HST at New Years and put 40 hours on it so far - mostly blowing and plowing snow here in Ontario. Temperatures have been sub freezing every day and I've been plugging in the block heater each night.

While the tractor has done everything I've asked of it - the diesel rattle is "god-awful" loud even when it warms up. My old 1958 David Brown was quieter till it threw a rod.

The new Kioti motor sounds like it's ready to "let go" but smooths out at high RPM. I assume that this is normal for new high compression diesels but - does anyone else experience this loud diesel rattle? Am I needlessly concerned?

50 hour check comes up next week and I'll ask the mech to check it out but any feedback would be appreciated............Thanks guys!

Hello Canzipper, thats pretty much normal for subzero startups with the new diesels.. I personally switched to the 5w 40 rotella synthetic after the first 50 hour oil change. I did notice the machine ran more quiet after that but when its very cold they will make a racket for a bit. You can also throttle up a bit and let the engine warm up at a little higher rpm. As long as your machine quiets down after its warmed up id say your normal. Good luck.. Matt

So when it is sitting there idling and rattling away, push the clutch in and see how much quieter it is. Even latch it down and walk away, enjoy the smooth running diesel. Something about that HST tranny rattles like a big dog.

Yes I would imagine the type/weight of oil is very important in conditions like that, what oil is in it? Original I guess, whatever that is.

I'd change it to Rotella 5-40 ASAP if it is ok with the warranty.

And let us know.

Mike

I also use the Rotella 5W-40 in my CK30hst. Mine does rattle on the very cold starts, around 20 or less, but then quiets done a bit once warm. I don't use a heater. Never had a problem in 300 hours.

I like this forum. Need to look at it more often. I'd guess you've got a winter oil being in Ontario but you can't be too safe where oil's concerned. Cheap insurance. I switched over to Amsoil heavy duty diesel a couple years ago and think I'm getting less sub zero startup chatter, but maybe it's just wishful thinking. Anyway, at your 50 hour I'd switch to a synthetic. It's so little extra $ and at least you'll know for sure what weight you've got in it.

If you are wearing hearing protection as we all should operating these rigs, you will find the machine to be much quieter... :~}

Always glad to help he he
I was stressing over the noises on my CK30HST back in 2005 when it was "brand new". Some earmuffs and 100 hours later it still runs!!

Or it could just totally break in half one day like that thread going on... if thats the case I hope I'm standing next to my tractor as opposed to being in the drivers seat whilst one half disembarks from the other

I recently noticed that my CK30H at idle will set up a sympathic
vibration with one of the hyd hardlines under the tractor. This is one
of several hydraulic lines (about 3/4" OD) and is unsupported for about
3 feet. I can see it move about 1 inch side-to-side if I look under the
tractor while it is idling. Anyone else see that?
