Had TC25D, now JD X310
I checked in the Owner's Mannual and couldn't find anything about the locations on my TC25D where it's safe to jack and support the tractor.

Does anyone know where the proper jack and support points are?

Unlike today's uni-body automobiles, you don't have to be so particular where you jack up your tractor.

Let common sense prevail - The rear axle supports the tractor on the ground - thus it will support the tractor if you jack it up. Pick a spot that ensures good stable contact between jack & tractor to minimize the chance of slipping etc.

The trick is finding a spot to jack that still allows room for a jack stand once you've got the tractor lifted up.

Ain't that the truth! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif With the mmm pieces on the rear axle there isn't much room left.

Is it safe to use the drawbar?

Probably . . ., but I wouldn't. The drawbar is made for tongue weight; i.e., weight pushing down on it, and while it may be strong enough to lift, I just wouldn't take a chance on bending the drawbar or breaking the bracket off. Strictly personal opinion and guess, of course. However, I have lifted a tractor with a jack directly under the front end of the drawbar bracket (center of differential). If you do that you just have to remember that the tractor chassis can pivot to some degree on the front axle, so if one side of the tractor is heavier than the other, it won't lift straight up. And if it does lift straight up and you remove the tire on one side, it will immediately tilt to the other side until that tire hits the ground. Not a problem if you've only barely lifted it high enough for the tires to clear the ground, but could be quite exciting otherwise. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'd say the drawbar would be just fine, although not way out at the end, stay close to the axle. Another thing that will help is to put some weight in the FEL and raise the bucket. That will take a lot of weight off the rear and make easy to jack it up.

I'd do the opposite, get the weight off the front wheels using down pressure on the FEL, so you don't have to worry about the tractor tipping side to side on the pivot as Bird mentioned when you lift the rear end on center.

I'd barely lift the front wheels, so that if you have a hydraulic failure, the tractor won't drop far before it is supported by the front axle.

Good luck, take your time & be safe.

Dang, Stephen, why didn't I think of that? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Good tip.

Bird, I was just praising you for having a better memory than me in the Wheeled String Trimmers thread over in Rural Living a few weeks ago.

I'm not saying you still don't have a good memory but Russ. C. did give you the same advice on 4/22/02 that Hazmat just gave you. It is at the bottom of my thread Where can I safely lift from?

You probably just never read Russ. C.'s reply /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Spencer, I don't remember whether I read it and forgot it or forget to read it or just missed it. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
