Cleaning Diesel Storage Tank

I recently acquired a 25 gallon diesel storage tank and plan to mount it on a small trailer. The tank is empty and has been for an extended period of time..

Best I can tell the tank is dry and sludge free. However, It has some rust on the bottom of the tank. The rust is not severe, but I obviously need to clean it before I use it.

It has a drain plug. I also have the ability to lift it and turn it upside down if need be.

I have read several cleaning options....chemicals, vacuming, molasses, muriatic acid, etc. .....but still not sure what is the best method to use.

I will install a filter on the pump once I get it cleaned out.

Attached is the best picture i could get....in some areas the rust is heavier....but for the most part the inside is in pretty good shape considering the tank has been idle for at least 7 years.

Suggestions?

pressure washer to get all the loose stuff out and then fill it with diesel .. good filters and move on to something else

Almost looks galvanized. If so, it isn't good for diesel storage.

That is probably a coating like inside the diesel tank on my backhoe.

I cleaned the rust out of my backhoe tank with a 50% water and vinegar mix. Washed it out with the pressure washer before and after soaking for 24 hours. Dried it out with a heat gun.
