Cleanup after loggers

Hi folks. My wife and I just added 130 acres to our place. Sounds great, but it's mostly vertical and has been left a mess by a recent logging operation. We would dearly love to have the hundreds of small trees and the remains of others cleaned out and have been told that 澱ark mulch operations will come in and do this at no charge. Is this true?

What痴 the experience out there? Does anyone know of an efficient way to clean up this mess? We are in Southwest Pa.

I bought a Bobcat with a root rake grapple; a rotary, hydraulic powered, open throat brush cutter and will be buying a stump grinder for it. I also bought a bandit 12" chipper. We were under a burn ban at the time here in east Texas.

I may sell the bandit chipper to recoup some of the money.

Everything except the brush cutter and stump grinder is from the used market.

This sounds like a large investment, but they wanted $25 per stump just to grind them. I have around 1000 stumps... I will have spent about the same money and I get to keep the equipment.

Can you let it dry for a year and do a controlled burn then go from their.

Wifey is from SW PA. so I'm familiar with that terrain. May be best to just let Mother Nature rot what is down and keep the small trees. Erosion would be a concern if everything is removed.

Erosion could be a major problem. Your local state forester (PA*DCNR*-*Service Foresters will be able to advise you on your alternatives.
