<font color="blue"> Pine,
When the tree hugging dirt worshiping PETA people get through with the fish and game laws we all will think the way you do about deer.
Untill then I see pure untainted meat when I see them here in MA.

Everybody has an opinion. It shows a “higher lever of consciousness” when a person is able to respect someone else’s opinions & beliefs, especially when those opinions are different from their own. When people are unable to respect others opinions because they don’t understand or agree with them it leads to fights and even wars.

Well said Pineridge!

Pine,
Let me explain.
The animal lovers expound the position of nonhunting but do little to support the game conservation efforts that are traditionally funded by hunting and trapping fees. If they are willing to belly up to the game with a full funding replacment for the state fish and game department that IS fully funded by the fees come on in and lets talk. They do not. But they do want their position to hold the full weight of others.
The beaver situation is a prime example of the PETA way.The law has been changed to not allow leg hold traps in Ma. and that has made the trapping of beavers in Ma. not practial. So now anyone that has a brook on their land will sooner or later have beavers in it and when the dam goes up you need a special permit to have the beavers removed by an expert at a huge cost. The deer WILL overpopulate their available shrinking habitat as they have in other areas and where will PETA be at that time. They will be protesting the controlled hunt that is the humane way to eliminate the overpopulation that They HAD A MAJOR HAND IN CAUSING!
My position, and I stand firmly with it. I do welcome other positions as long as they are backed up with a logical alternitive plan for the existing one that they are opposed to.

Var,
I'll bet you support your position by the purchase on hunting Lic. every year. I have not had time to hunt for the last few years but continued to buy a Lic. because it supports conservation efforts that I believe in. The funding of ones position is a responsibity the we all need to tale seriously.

Gary you have already explained your position on wildlife you don't need to clarify for me.

You are most welcome to shoot and eat all the wildlife on your property it makes absolutely no difference to me.

We feed and harbor the wildlife on our property and it shouldn't spoil your day one way or the other either.

We can both agree to disagree on this point, no harm no foul.

I'm a hunter and a conservationist. In order to hunt, we need to protect the animals and their habitat. The biggest factor in wildlife population numbers is the development of homes and roads in traditional migratory locations. Certain times of the year, only the food available in that location will sustain the herd.

As for seeing a deer outside my window, it's a dream that I hope to have happen some day. If it's a huge buck, then he will live out his life in safety. I can always find another buck in a different location.

I envy you Pineridge for the experience you had, and I thank you for sharing it with us on this site.

Once upon a time, when I lived in a tornado magnet (otherwise known as a mobile home) I had a large plum tree very close to the back door. It was not at all unusual for me to walk by that door, and then just freeze for a while as I watched a deer buisilly munching away at those plums on the ground while standing no more than 5 feet from me. There's absolutely no way that they could have been unaware of my presence (sound reverberated quite well in the ole' tin can) but they didn't care in the least.

For the most part these days, I generally feed 'em, mainly because I enjoy watching them (which is increasingly difficult due to my newest four-legged terror). But at the same time, I've shot and eaten my share of them over the years as well.

Jerry
